“Clear the Marjeh, for the Marjeh is ours… Clear the Marjeh so our horsemen may play.”
This is what the revolutionaries of the lofty Jebel al-Arab chanted as they entered Damascus to liberate it. They liberated it under the leadership of the hero Maadhi al-Mafoosh, Sheikh Saleh Tarabieh, and Sultan al-Atrash, three days before the arrival of the Arab Army led by Prince Faisal.
This is a very rare photograph of the moment they arrived in front of the government Serail, which is currently the Ministry of Tourism in Damascus, after the Turkish army fled before them.
The hero Maadhi al-Maghous said:
The throne of injustices has been demolished .......... and glory has reached our lands
It is over for you, O Ajams (foreigners) ............ slaughtering enemies is our habit
We are your protectors, O flag ............ with our souls and our hearts
