God Almighty said in His Holy Book: "We have certainly created man in the best of stature"[1], and He also said: "He created man, [and] taught him eloquence"[2], along with many other noble verses indicating that God Almighty made man the most honorable of creations and subjected all existing things to him so that worship might be fulfilled through him.
God Almighty willed to create this rational, living, speaking, moving being and distinguish him from all creatures with characteristics and qualities that set him apart from others. He is rational by virtue of his intellect, living by virtue of his soul, speaking by virtue of his ability to articulate and talk, and moving by virtue of his past and subsequent actions.
Man's ability to grasp and analyze information is due to the divine blessing bestowed upon him by the Almighty. Intellect is a mercy in that it is the boundary by which the servant understands what the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful has willed for him to understand: "Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason"[3].
The soul is also a distinctive quality specific to this unique being, as it serves as the vessel capable of both good, represented by "intellect," and evil, represented by "ignorance"; for whoever knows himself knows his Lord. Man's ability to express is limited by the word he utters, and his time is limited by the past—that is, the deeds that have preceded—and the subsequent, which is what follows in the unfolding of existence itself.
Based on the above, it becomes clear to us that the limits of man stop at the intellect, the soul, the word, and the past and subsequent actions.
The Unitarian Druze, based on the noble verse "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it"[4], believe that every human being is responsible for his actions, as the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Every one of you is a shepherd and every one of you is responsible for his flock." To the extent that one's sins decrease, one's rank rises, and vice versa.
O God, we ask You to be among those You meant by Your saying: "And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy - it is they who will be the successful"[5], and do not make us among those about whom it was said: "But those whose scales are light - they are the ones who have lost their souls for what injustice they were doing to Our verses"[6]. And our final prayer is that praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.
