They ask you about the lawful to seek illumination in its gardens, be guided by the lights of its lanterns, and drink from the pure water of its abundance. Tell them: the essence of existence is purposeful motion that compels the part to move in longing and passion toward its whole—a subtle, essential, and pure motion aiming to reach the highest and most exalted stillness in the ascent of ends. Whoever God has honored with an understanding of its meanings and illuminated with the light of its wisdom stands at the threshold of what God has made lawful, ordaining it as a path of salvation throughout the journey of trial and choice, that he may be purified by truths and shed his dense clay for his subtle realm, thereby becoming a transparent light amidst the procession of that Light which illuminates without burning, and guides without misleading. The light that shone with the coolness of tranquility and peace, spreading over all created beings who held fast to the rope of their Lord, walking in the courtyards of His gardens and seeking shade beneath the trees of His exalted sanctuary.
It is the lawful that dignifies its companions with honor, vision, close companionship, and chosen status. Thus, they walked upon the earth with upright posture, guided by a light illuminating their paths and discerning for them the lawful from the forbidden, and truth from falsehood. They were purified by the breeze of the spirit and sweet basil, through the wisdom of intellect and thought that illuminated all universes and guided them to righteousness and faith. They were touched by their Beloved through beauty and majesty, grace and benevolence; hence, they renounced the adornments of worldly life, pondered subtle meanings, and awaited the inevitable promise stipulated in all religions, feeling the reality of the nights of the even and the odd, and the dawns of the ten nights, toward that daybreak wherein the suns of Divine Unity rise upon the thrones of the lovers' hearts.
All this is attained by following the path from the primal source to traverse the ascents of gnosis, where honor lies in the call of Truth to them: May the Lord guide us and you, and instill the love of the lawful in your hearts.
It is the lawful that purifies the souls of the beloved through love for the Beloved, immersing the knower in intimate communion with his Beloved, knowing with absolute certainty that were it not for the call of the Beloved, all lovers would have remained deaf, unable to hear; were it not for His address, all would have remained mute, unable to speak; were it not for the Light, they would not have beheld the majesty of beauty nor drowned in the sea of its illuminations; and were it not for the divine manifestation upon the thrones of hearts, those hearts would never have found tranquility, comfort, and rest at the heart of happiness, with happiness settling in their core.
