Historian Ibrahim Judiya writes:
At the official invitation of the Mufti of Jerusalem, Amin al-Husseini, the Islamic Conference was held in early June 1932 in Jerusalem to address the dangers resulting from increased Jewish migration and land purchases. Delegates from Islamic organizations and activists concerned with the city of Jerusalem participated in this conference.
An invitation was extended to the leadership of the Great Syrian Revolt in Wadi al-Sirhan, and Sultan Pasha al-Atrash commissioned a delegation led by Ali Obeid, accompanied by Qasim Abu Khair, Sayyah al-Atrash, Abdul Karim Amer, and Hazza al-Atwani, to participate in the Jerusalem Conference.
The conference opened, and generous donations poured in to prevent the sale of land and to preserve Jerusalem. The Mujahid Ali Obeid stood up and addressed the attendees: "I convey to you the greetings of the General Commander of the Syrian Revolt from within the Saudi desert. You all know what our financial capabilities are, but with the help of God, we are prepared to protect Jerusalem and the soil of Palestine with our swords and our souls."
The conference hall erupted in loud applause. Subhi al-Khadra said: "These are the true Arabs; they say and they do."
