Dr. Bashar Areij is a Syrian poet and writer who was born and raised in the city of As-Suwayda in 1975. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Dentistry from Damascus University, obtained in 1999.
He began writing in early 1988. He published his first poems in 1991 in Al-Masira newspaper, affiliated with the Revolutionary Youth Union. He has participated in numerous poetry evenings in Syria and has published much of his work in local and Arab newspapers, both print and electronic.
He has won many literary awards, including: The Okaz Poetry Award in 2001, the Arab Writers Union Award in 2002, the Al-Mazra'a Award for Literary Creativity in 2002/2004, the Omar Abu Risha Poetry Award in 2019, and the Rabia Al-Raqqi Award in 2020.
