Nabil Mahmoud Tay Abu Dargham signed the second revised edition of his book “For What Remains” at the Fouad Chehab Command and Staff College in Rayhanieh. The signing ceremony was attended by the College Commander, Brigadier General Mohammed Bitar, and a gathering of college officers and officers currently undergoing a staff course.
The ceremony began with welcoming remarks by the College Commander, who considered that the college is open to culture, recalling the saying of General Charles de Gaulle that the true school of command is general culture.
Then Abu Dargham spoke, thanking General Joseph Aoun, “who gave me the opportunity for this meeting today.” He considered himself part of the generation of disappointment, “so as not to say the generation of despair. But what kept me away from despair was my father, the first commando and former Army Chief of Staff, and his faith in Lebanon, its mission, and its future.”
He added: “When I entered the United Nations service, I saw over thirty years of service that the international organization must revive and lead the dialogue of civilizations. Dialogue is the only way to give a chance for international peace and security.”
He concluded by saying: “Regarding the army, our greater family, I hope that the children of retired officers, whom life has provided with scientific, cultural, and material knowledge, will ask about the army and its conditions and care for it because, as my father used to repeat, it is the backbone of the nation; if it collapses, the nation collapses for everyone without exception.”
It is worth noting that the second edition of Abu Dargham's book was also published by Arab Scientific Publishers and contains political and other messages. It also includes a section titled “From a Soldier's Notebooks.” The book, which was introduced by Dr. Mervat Tallawy, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, spans 134 medium-sized pages. The cover is a watercolor by the great artist Majd Kurdieh, designed by Ali Al-Kahwaji.
