Abd al-Ghaffar Pasha al-Atrash was the leader of the Jabal al-Druze in the 1920s and 1930s.

Al-Atrash was one of the leaders of the Great Syrian Revolt, but remained in the mountain to manage affairs while Sultan al-Atrash was in Nabk.

He held many responsibilities and carried out numerous missions, and was one of the most prominent Druze figures in the mountain. In the 1940s, he was appointed Minister of Defense in the government of Syria.

 

Reconciliation in Shefa-Amr

In 1939, he headed a distinguished delegation that traveled to Palestine to complete the reconciliation ceremonies in the city of Shefa-Amr following the killing of Sheikh Abu Saleh Hassan Khunaifes. He established the banner of peace and then toured the Druze villages with the delegation, establishing the banner of peace in some villages where internal disputes had occurred, and supporting Druze citizens in the Carmel and the Galilee.
