Marwan Assaf, born in 1967, was the photojournalist loved by everyone who knew him, earning the headline in “Al-Akhbar” newspaper on the day of his passing: “Marwan Assaf… The Passing of the Beloved Photographer.”
Assaf worked as a photographer for several media outlets, beginning his career at “Al-Mustaqbal” newspaper, and later at “Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal” magazine and “Al-Anbaa” newspaper. He then moved to “As-Safir” newspaper, and finally to “An-Nahar” newspaper, which he joined and spent the longest period of his career.
An Eventful Journey
Assaf’s journey was eventful; he captured a large collection of photos with his lens and accompanied the most important events in Lebanon, always full of drive, vitality, and energy.
He passed away on February 18, 2021, leaving behind an unparalleled imprint, much like the images captured by his lens.
The residents of Ras Beirut, the media community, and the Press Photographers Syndicate laid photographer Assaf to rest in a funeral held at the Druze Community House in Verdun, Beirut. Among those who participated in his farewell were former Chief of Staff Major General Amin El-Erem and a number of his fellow photographers and journalists, led by the head of the Press Photographers Syndicate, Aziz Taher, in addition to several public figures and clerics.
