Kamal Sharaf, a university professor, served as Minister of Higher Education in Syria between 1987 and 1992, and Minister of State for Planning Affairs between 1984 and 1985. He was also Syria's ambassador to Malaysia.
In addition to political positions, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Organization for Tobacco, and head of both the Syrian Economic Sciences Association and the Arab Economists Union.
Academic experience
He was a professor at the Faculty of Economics at Damascus University, authored a number of scientific books, published numerous research papers, and supervised many scientific theses for Master's and Doctorate degrees.
He holds a PhD in Economics with a specialization in monetary and banking affairs from the Institute of National Economy in Moscow, and a Bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Commerce and Economics at Damascus University.
He participated in scientific research evaluation committees at Syrian and Arab universities, and in scientific examination committees for the promotion of professors at Syrian and Arab universities.
