The experience of the creative sculptor Lutfi Barjas forms one of the significant artistic journeys that highlight the bright face and the creations of the people of Jebel al-Arab, as well as their passion for art and life.
Barjas was born in the village of Bakka, in the countryside of Suwayda, in 1971. He works in the field of plastic sculpture and architectural art, and he worked as an arts teacher in his village for nearly thirty years.
Passion for Art from Childhood
Sculptor Barjas, whose passion for art emerged with the world of drawing from childhood, began his journey with sculpture in 1991 during his studies in the manual work department at the Teachers' Preparation Institute in Damascus, after learning about international experiences in this field. He later moved to Lebanon to complete his first sculptural work, "Mars," the Greek god of war as he imagined him, using white Arsal rock. His creations in the art of sculpture subsequently followed through hundreds of sculptural works in which he combined architectural decorative sculptures and plastic art, as he was able to blend architecture with visual arts.
Spread Abroad
Sculptor Barjas's works varied between realism, mythology, and classical works that incorporate ideas such as wildness, expressed through the horse, and majesty, expressed through the lion, in addition to the deep experiences of people reflected in their faces through "portrait" works.
Sculptor Barjas points out that most of his works have been acquired, including works outside Syria such as the "Angel of Mercy" statue acquired in Italy, and the portrait of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed acquired in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
