Ayman Chawkat Choucair, a Lebanese politician from a prestigious family, was elected as a Member of Parliament in more than one electoral cycle and was appointed Minister of State for Human Rights in 2016.
Choucair was born in the town of Arsoune, Baabda District, in 1950. His father was the leader Chawkat Choucair, one of the Chiefs of Staff of the Syrian Army.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD).
Businessman
He worked at the "InLife Insurance" company and held the position of Assistant Regional Manager for the company in Lebanon. He also engaged in banking in Lebanese banks in Beirut and foreign banks in France and the United States of America in the late seventies. He is a businessman and manager of an electrical equipment company.
In Politics
Choucair was appointed as a Member of Parliament in 1991 for the Druze seat and was elected as an MP for the first time in 1992. He was re-elected in the 1996, 2000, and 2005 cycles, representing the Progressive Socialist Party.
He was chosen as a member of the Public Works, Transport, Housing, Cooperatives, Water Resources, and Electricity committees, then in the National Economy, Trade, Industry, and Oil committee, and in the Parliamentary Appeals Committee.
He was elected Secretary of the Parliament Bureau on 17/10/2000, and was re-elected as Secretary in 2005.
He ran for the 2009 election cycle for the Druze seat in the Baabda District.
