Major General Hamad Obeid is one of the senior military leaders in Syria (1928-1942).
He was born and raised in As-Suwayda Governorate, joined the Military Academy in Homs in 1949, and graduated with the rank of lieutenant in 1952.
Minister of Defense
He progressed through various ranks during his military service until he reached the rank of colonel during the March Revolution of 1963, and after the revolution, he assumed the position of commander of the 16th Brigade. He was then promoted to the rank of Major General (General) on December 1, 1964, and was appointed Minister of Defense on September 23, 1965.
He was awarded the following decorations: the Medal of Loyalty, the United Arab Republic Commemorative Medal, the Victory Medal, the Palestine Liberation Army Day Medal, the March 8 Revolution Commemorative Medal, and the Syrian Arab Army Medal.
