Issam Said Charafeddine is a Lebanese pharmacist, politician, and Minister of the Displaced in Najib Mikati's government since September 2021.

 

Academic Background

Issam Charafeddine was born in the city of Aley in 1954. He completed his secondary education at the National College in Aley in 1972, and earned a pharmacy degree from the American University of Beirut in 1976.

 

Professional Career

He worked in the pharmacy profession until the early 1990s, after which he shifted to the industrial sector, particularly in the manufacture of soap, cosmetics, and cleaning products. He is a founder and key partner in the industrial enterprise "Charafeddine Industrial Laboratories" for cosmetics and soap manufacturing, an advisor to the leader of the Lebanese Democratic Party Talal Arslan, and a member of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists since 1991. He previously served as Vice President of the Syndicate of Chemical Industries and was the founding president of the Aley Industrialists Association. In 2019, he became the founding president of the Aley Cycling Club. He is also an environmental activist who contributed to the establishment of the Chouya Cedar Reforestation Reserve.
