On Tuesday afternoon, December 26, 2023, in the Russian capital, Moscow, the spiritual leader of the Druze community, His Eminence Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, met with Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister; Alexander Lavrentiev – Special Presidential Envoy for the Syrian Settlement; and General Sergei Afanasyev, representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The meeting addressed several Middle Eastern topics, most notably the situation of members of the Druze community in Syria in recent times.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to intensively follow up on all issues presented with the aim of consolidating Russian-Druze relations at various levels, including cultural aspects and study scholarships.
