Wael Abou Faour was born in the town of Al-Khalwat – Hasbaya District in 1972.

He received his primary, intermediate, and secondary education in his hometown's public schools.

He moved to the American University of Beirut, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.

He joined the "Progressive Youth Organization" during his university studies and progressed through its responsibilities from Secretary of the American University office to a member of the General Secretariat in 1994. In 1997, he was elected Secretary-General of the organization and continued to perform the duties of the General Secretariat until 2002.

In 1999, he was elected as a member of the Leadership Council of the "Progressive Socialist Party," and he is a member of the General Secretariat of the "Arab Youth Union."

 

Parliament and Ministry

He was elected as a representative for the Druze seat in the Western Bekaa – Rashaya district in the 2005 term. He was re-elected in subsequent terms, the most recent being in 2022.

He was appointed Minister of State in the government formed by Prime Minister Fouad Siniora on 11/7/2008. He was re-appointed Minister of State in Prime Minister Saad Hariri's government on 9/11/2009. He was appointed Minister of Social Affairs in Najib Mikati's government on 13/6/2011. He was also appointed Minister of Public Health in Tammam Salam's government in 2014, and later as Minister of Industry.

He plays a prominent political role alongside the former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt.

Humanitarian Mark

He left an important humanitarian mark at the Ministry of Social Affairs, particularly through his launch of the program for the poorest families and his introduction of social cards that served as support for many needy families.

As for the Ministry of Health, he achieved significant accomplishments, most notably the launch of the food safety campaign just a few months after taking over the ministry and activating the oversight mechanism for food establishments.

He also approved the unified medical prescription, which contributed to significantly lowering drug prices, and approved comprehensive health coverage for seniors over the age of 64, beginning implementation on October 1st.
