Aley bid farewell to its son, journalist and Arab film critic Walid Saab Chamit, at the "Social Message" hall in the city, in a crowded funeral attended by Democratic Gathering bloc member MP Akram Chehayeb, Lebanese Army Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Oudeh, advisor to the Sheikh Aql of the Unitarian Druze community Sheikh Fadi Al-Attar, Progressive Socialist Party internal agent in Aley Youssef Deaibes, Secretary-General of the Labor Liberation Front Walid Chamit, former Director General of the State Employees Cooperative Anwar Daou, and a crowd of municipal, mukhtar, educational, and cultural figures from the city of Aley and the surrounding areas, along with a group of journalist colleagues and artists who accompanied the deceased throughout his life's various stages.

Hadi Walid Saab Chamit delivered a speech in which he thanked the attendees, including family, prominent figures, friends, and mourners. He spoke about his father's attachment to his city of Aley and his homeland, Lebanon, despite living abroad, and his career in journalism and film criticism, which was never without the nation and its affairs and concerns; rather, it was the focal point and the product of his intellectual contributions.

Following this, funeral prayers were held for the soul of the deceased, and his body was laid to rest in the family cemetery.

It is noteworthy that the late Walid Chamit was a pioneer of film criticism in the Arab world, and one of the first writers and journalists to introduce cinema to Arab readers through his articles published in a number of Arab newspapers, and his Lebanese television program at the beginning of his career.
