In a move carrying much pride and honor, the Founding King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein entrusted the position of the first Prime Minister of the Jordanian government to the Druze politician Rashid Tali'a1. on April 11, 1921.

Al-Ma'arufi Rashid Tali'a was a member of the Unitarian Druze community in Lebanon. He was born in 1877 and received his education at the Dar al-Funun located in Istanbul, which was considered the most important university in the Ottoman Empire at the time.

After his graduation, Tali'a held many high-ranking government positions in the Ottoman Empire, most notably his appointment as Mutasarrif of Hauran, Mutasarrif of Tripoli, and Mutasarrif of Latakia.
