Manar Mahmoud Naeem is a young woman from As-Suwayda, a talent who has made her mark in Canada, where she was selected in 2020 as one of the top 30 musicians under 30 for her oud playing.
In an interview with the Suwayda 24 network, Naeem said, “I am a quantum computing physics graduate who started playing the oud about 17 years ago, and the beginning was random and purely by chance,” noting that “playing the oud was a hobby for me.”
She continued, “When I entered university, I began taking lessons to prepare for admission to the Higher Institute of Music in Syria, but at the same time, I received a scholarship to study physics in Canada. Based on that, I traveled to Canada, where I learned about the Canadian Arabic Orchestra and applied to be a part of it, and I was accepted. At the same time, I began working as an oud teacher at the Canadian Arabic Institute.”
She added, “I was selected in 2020 for the CBC list of the top 30 musicians in Canada under 30 years old.”
