In 1998, Widad Shujaa, daughter of Jabal al-Arab, piloted a passenger plane from Damascus International Airport to Cairo Airport, becoming the first Druze Syrian woman to enter the aviation field.
Widad Shujaa, born in 1979, is the daughter of Captain Adnan Shujaa. She turned to the field of aviation in Syria before being sent to the United States of America for training, until she became qualified to pilot a “Boeing 727” passenger plane.
During her work as an aircraft pilot, Shujaa flew several trips from Syria to various European countries on “Airbus 320” aircraft.
In several press interviews, Captain Shujaa speaks about the extent of the encouragement she received from her family and friends, and from the passengers who were pleased to have a woman pilot the plane they were traveling on.
