Women in As-Suwayda governorate have been famous for participating alongside men in all aspects of life, from work and humanitarian tasks to bearing arms. These women were distinguished by their courage and dignity, and they were able to determine the fate of Jabal al-Arab several times.
Bustan Shalghin is one of the women who marked a turning point in the history of As-Suwayda during the French occupation of Syria, as she took on the harshness of the Lajat region in her character; she was a daughter of the village of Samad in the Lajat region, and the widow of the mujahid Hayel Shalghin.

This woman gave her gold jewelry and bought weapons and food for the revolutionaries, just as she sold her sheep in As-Suwayda governorate.
When the French campaign camped in the Lajat region near the village of Samad, the campaign commander asked to meet Bustan and get to know her due to his fear of her and his fear that she would become a phenomenon followed by the women and men of As-Suwayda. She refused to meet him and said: We have no place left to receive the campaign commander except the animal shed, and it is cleaner than having it defiled by his feet.
This position is one of many positions held by that great female fighter.
Bustan Shalghin is one of the revolutionary women in As-Suwayda during the French occupation who stood by the men's side and proved to the occupation that the Syrian woman is no less than the man when it comes to her land and her dignity.
