About 200 sixth-grade primary education students participated in the first phase of the Smart Child Cognitive Olympiad, organized by the Tomorrow’s Children Association in As-Suwayda under the supervision of the governorate's Directorates of Education and Social Affairs and Labor.
The first phase of the Olympiad, hosted by Shakib Arslan High School in As-Suwayda, included a qualifying exam at the school level that focused, through automated questions, on the student’s intelligence skills, general knowledge, observation power, concentration, and wit. The questions were developed by several university-graduate teachers who are specialized and scientifically qualified to manage this Olympiad.
In a statement to reporters, As-Suwayda Governor Bassam Barsik pointed to the importance of this event, which is being held for the first time, to encourage children to increase their information and knowledge and to work on developing and expanding them successively to carry them over to various educational grades.
As-Suwayda Director of Education Akram Al-Hasaniya noted that the participation in the Olympiad involved various schools in the governorate, and contestants were distributed into 12 classrooms, pointing to the importance of this initiative as a first experience conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Education to enhance knowledge among children.
The Chairperson of the Association's Board of Directors, Ruba Diab, explained that they launched this initiative in coordination with the concerned authorities to discover the creativity of this age group and enhance their curiosity and exploration skills. She stated that every student who achieves fifty percent of the correct answers in the first phase will qualify for the second and final phase, scheduled for the coming days, to determine the top winners and award them with financial prizes.
A number of participants and their parents considered the Smart Child Cognitive Olympiad a new experience that carries cultural and scientific importance.
