In a time when divisions are growing and tensions are escalating, enlightened minds remain a beacon of hope. A prime example of such a figure is the Sheikh Aql of the Unitarian Druze community in Lebanon, Dr. Sami Abi Al-Muna, who has earned the title of ambassador for dialogue and openness and stands as a role model for promoting the spirit of dialogue and peace in the world.
Abi Al-Muna is a clergyman, man of letters, and poet, and one of the most prominent religious and intellectual figures in Lebanon. He was elected Sheikh Aql of the Unitarian Druze community on September 30, 2021.
He was born in the village of Chanay in the Aley District, where he grew up and received his primary education, distinguishing himself from a young age with his intelligence and love for knowledge and learning.
Sheikh Abi Al-Muna obtained a degree in Arabic language and literature from the Lebanese University in 1980, marking the beginning of his scientific and literary journey. He set out to explore the worlds of science and philosophy, dedicating significant effort to delving into religious and cultural concepts, and ultimately receiving his Ph.D. on December 14, 2015, on the topic of "Islamic-Christian Dialogue in Lebanon… A Vision of the Unitarian Druze."
He carried the message of tolerance and coexistence between religions and cultures in his heart and worked diligently to promote it. He played an active role in fostering interfaith and intercultural dialogue in Lebanon.
He obtained a master's degree in Islamic-Christian relations from Saint Joseph University in Beirut and mastered communication between different religions through the language of dialogue and understanding.
Sheikh Abi Al-Muna is distinguished by his refined literary sense, with an ability to express his thoughts in gentle and expressive words. He has written hundreds of poems, speeches, and articles that carry messages fragrant with wisdom and peace.
Sheikh Abi Al-Muna is considered a figure who strives to strengthen the unity of Lebanon. He believes in the importance of interaction between the various religions and cultures in his country and works to overcome sectarian divisions and build bridges of communication and understanding between the various Lebanese sects.
He also seeks to preserve the cultural and religious heritage of the Unitarian Druze and Muslims in Lebanon. He promotes a deeper understanding of the Druze religion and culture and strives to pass on this cultural and religious legacy to future generations.
He is a prolific writer with dozens of books and publications, particularly on interfaith dialogue and the history and society of the Unitarian Druze.
