The General Commander of the Great Syrian Revolution, Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, wrote down thoughts in 1961, in one of which he says:

They said that we have harvested the fruit of our struggle, the fruit of that tree whose soil we mixed with our blood… No, this fruit has not yet set; our struggle is still in the blossom stage and has not yet become fruit, because we do not want to harvest it while we are all united as Arabs.

Sons of the revolution and children of the desert, thus we vowed ourselves to be sacrifices offered upon the altar of Arabism… It will not bear fruit as long as its branches are infested with deadly insects. It will not bear fruit until the voice of Palestine rises with freedom, and the specter of greed vanishes from Iraq, Egypt, and Transjordan. Only then, how wonderful a ripe and delicious fruit it would be, a symbol for generations who carried the torch of civilization, whose light shall never fade again.
