The young woman Renee Nasr from As-Suwayda Governorate embodies her passion for painting, which has accompanied her since childhood, through artworks that reflect her taste, artistic sensibility, and talent, which she developed through academic art studies.

The 32-year-old Renee recounted how she began painting in her early childhood, where she participated in many school exhibitions, eventually joining the Center for Visual Arts at the Directorate of Culture, graduating after a two-year study, in parallel with her studies at the Institute of Visual and Applied Arts, graduating in 2012 with distinction and a grade point average exceeding 90 percent.

Renee’s talent and studies came together after her marriage into an artistic family that encourages her. Her husband, as she mentioned, is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in sculpture; her father-in-law is the well-known sculptor Fouad Naeem, who recently passed away; and her mother-in-law is the visual artist Nadia Naeem.

Renee, whose beginnings were in realistic works, shifted more than a year ago, as she explained, towards symbolic expressionism in art. She has completed many paintings in this style, in which she sails and finds joy in embodying her thoughts and feelings, summarizing and simplifying the form to convey what she intends.

The works Renee presents focus primarily on the human element. They move away from the third dimension of the painting and work more on its surface to give the viewer a chance to see the scene in its entirety, she explained, stressing that she does not tend to use specific colors or focus on them, but rather creates a color mix, selecting colors that achieve harmony and balance in the painting, often building her works on her inner sense and personal experiences.

Renee finds that a painting is a project she works on with all love and passion to reach a satisfactory result, especially given her attachment to art, which represents for her a vast space to express her feelings, sensations, dreams, and ambitions, and to release her energy and achieve indescribable happiness.
Renee, who has appeared in two group exhibitions, aspires to spread her art on a wider scale and participate in exhibitions with prominent artists, in addition to exhibitions outside Syria in the coming period.

According to visual artist Nadia Naeem, Renee has succeeded in presenting an experience according to her own style and approach, where she has transformed artistic elements into strong, simple, and reduced elements according to an artistic formulation that carries a touch of modernity. This provides visual comfort when viewing her paintings, which are characterized by their strong structure, cohesion, and the combination of meaning and formation, while also reflecting her understanding of masses and the way she handles lines, spaces, and colors beautifully.
