President Walid Jumblatt and the Sheikh Aql of the Unitarian Druze community, Sami Abi Al-Muna, visited Sheikh Ziad Al-Fatairi in Jadeidet El Chouf, in the presence of Sheikh Ghandi Makarem, Sheikh Menh Nasrallah, former judge Riad Talia, President of the Al-Irfan Tawhidia Foundation Sheikh Nazih Rafeh, Sheikh Wajdi Abu Hamza, and the Chouf Interior Commissioner Omar Ghannam.
In a speech, Jumblatt said: “It is true that our concern is the sect, but the sect is not an island; rather, we are part of this homeland.”
He added, “This homeland will remain, and for it to remain, there is no escape from what my father said in one of his statements long ago, that there is nothing more beautiful than compromise... the beauty of compromise.”
Jumblatt continued, “In my opinion, compromise comes through the agreement of the major factions and the election of a President of the Republic, for the absence of a president weakens the nation, and the presence of a president strengthens it.”
He added, “I entered politics 47 years ago after the assassination of Kamal Jumblatt, and I used to say, and I say it after 47 years, 'We are at the beginning of the road.' The most important thing is to maintain the Arab national line and to hold onto the land, coexistence, and dialogue with all factions.”
He stated, “The problem is that in the past there were no social media platforms; these are not communication, but social sabotage.”
He concluded by saying, “We must engage in dialogue calmly, and we are the people of reason.”
