At the peak of her giving, death has taken the Lebanese reporter and anchor, Bushra Abdel Samad (1969–2024), after a battle with cancer.
Abdel Samad, from the Unitarian Druze community, was born in the Shouf town of Amatour and was the daughter of the communist militant Nadim Abdel Samad.
The late journalist graduated from the «Faculty of Information» at the Lebanese University in 1991, before moving between several local media outlets. Her start was in print journalism, as she worked as an editor for a number of newspapers (including «Al-Nidaa»), and she also had experience in Lebanese radio stations (including «Sawt Al-Shaab»), before later transitioning to television.
Abdel Samad worked at «Al Jadeed» channel between 1993 and 1997, and her name shone when she joined the Qatari «Al Jazeera» channel as a reporter at the turn of the new millennium.
After leaving «Al Jazeera», Bushra continued her work in the «profession of troubles», and in February 2024, she launched the podcast «Zilaluna» (Our Shadows) via the «Watrah» platform. This podcast shed light on mental health and the impact of post-trauma on journalists. Through it, Abdel Samad shared her own experience and the experiences of many other journalists through interviews she conducted with them.
A sad loss of a brilliant media figure who carried the profession of troubles with all objectivity and professionalism throughout her career... Farewell, Bushra Abdel Samad.
