His Eminence Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in the Palestinian interior, delivered a moving speech during a memorial gathering held in the town of Hurfeish to commemorate the martyrs of the Druze community in Syria who fell as a result of takfiri terrorist attacks that targeted several villages, most notably As-Suwayda, Jaramana, and Sahnaya.
Condemning the Attacks and Calling to Safeguard Dignity
In his speech, His Eminence described the scene as a “sad, heavy morning,” emphasizing that what occurred is an assault on a natural and legitimate right to a dignified and secure life, and in defense of the monotheistic testament that calls for the preservation of land, honor, and religion.
He added: “Our honorable martyrs paid with their lives as the price for principles, and our voice will remain raised against anyone who deems the blood of innocents permissible.”
Warning Against Sectarian Strife and the Danger of Division
Sheikh Tarif warned that what is taking place poses a threat to Syria's unity, stating: “These events sound an ominous alarm for an uncertain future in which disputes turn into a tool to tear apart the national fabric.”
He also addressed the exploitation of a fabricated video clip to incite strife against the community, reiterating his condemnation of it and affirming respect for all prophets and messengers, in accordance with the teachings of all heavenly religions.
Affirming Full Support for the Community in Syria
In a clear message, His Eminence reaffirmed that the Druze community in Syria does not stand alone, saying: “We stand by our brothers in Syria heart and soul, and we will not ask permission from anyone to carry out our sacred duty in protecting our brethren.”
He also stressed that this support does not signify interference in the community's internal affairs, but rather represents an emotional and spiritual commitment stemming from a unity of destiny and belonging.
Praising the Grand Mufti's Appeal and Calling for Unity
His Eminence commended the appeal made by the Grand Mufti of the Syrian Arab Republic, Sheikh Osama Al-Rifai, in which he called for an end to fighting and the sparing of bloodshed, emphasizing that such stances are responsible and courageous.
He urged members of the community in Syria to close ranks, stating: “Unity, unity, O monotheistic brethren, for in it lies salvation, and in division lies destruction.”
Conclusion with Prayers for the Martyrs and Hope for a United Syria
The speech concluded with prayers for mercy upon the martyrs, recovery for the wounded, and protection for all devoted members of the community, while appealing to influential countries in the region to take immediate action to bring an end to this tragic situation.
Sheikh Tarif said at the conclusion of his address: “Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return, and Allah does not love the wrongdoers.”
