On the occasion of the forty-eighth anniversary of the martyrdom of national leader Kamal Jumblatt, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri delivered a moving speech, recalling Jumblatt's political and intellectual struggle, emphasizing that “Kamal Jumblatt was not a sectarian leader, but a national and internationalist leader who believed in the unity of Lebanon, Arabism, and social justice.”
“On the anniversary of the martyrdom of the one who said no to sectarianism, and who dreamed of a civil state, we remember Kamal Jumblatt, the man of stances and principles, who resisted the Israeli occupation, confronted the forces of backwardness, and believed that Palestine is the compass.”
He also pointed to the historical relationship that united him with the Progressive Socialist Party and leader Walid Jumblatt, considering that Kamal Jumblatt's journey remains a source of inspiration for all who believe in a free and democratic Lebanon.
“Kamal Jumblatt and we are on the same path: the path of Arabism, resistance, and the civil state. A path where dreams do not die, and even if the body was assassinated, the idea never dies.”
