In a new episode of the “They Said in the Mountain” program, we tell the story of a popular proverb from the heritage of Jabal al-Arab, which carries within its words a lesson about trust and repeated experiences.
The story tells of a merchant known for his kindness and generosity, who trusted a stranger and partnered with him in his harvest, but the latter betrayed him and stole the fruits of his labor. Years later, he returned to ask for forgiveness and a new chance, so the merchant forgave him and trusted him again, only for the betrayal to repeat and for him to lose his livelihood a second time.
When the story reached the village elders and dignitaries, the head of the village summarized the lesson in words that have echoed through generations: “Forgiveness is a virtue, but he who tests the tested has a corrupt mind.”
Forgiveness is a trait of the noble, but wisdom lies in learning from our experiences and not confusing kindness of heart with blind trust.
“They Said in the Mountain”.. Proverbs and stories from the memory of our ancestors, containing wisdom that resembles our lives to this day.
