North of the town of Umm al-Rumman in the southwestern countryside of As-Suwayda lies Al-Huwa Cave, a rare natural masterpiece where stalagmites and stalactites form charming artistic paintings in a cavity that extends several kilometers underground.
Geologists point out that the cave is a unique volcanic phenomenon, as it is a volcanic-limestone formation, two opposites that do not usually meet. The cave is also a complex structure consisting of two caves on top of each other.
The currently discovered length of the cave reaches about 3 km with a width of 12-17 meters, while it is expected that its total length could reach up to 9 kilometers.
In terms of stalagmites and stalactites, Al-Huwa Cave resembles the Jeita Grotto in Lebanon, except that the stalagmites in Al-Huwa resemble cactus fruits and pine cones, while the stalactites form an extremely beautiful natural artistic tableau.
