In a new episode, we host psychologist Layla Gharz Al-Din in a human-focused conversation titled «Losses, Challenges, and New Beginnings,» in which she speaks about milestones of loss, the experience of exile, and the importance of psychological awareness in facing life's challenges.
Gharz Al-Din recalls her experience of losing her husband early in their life together, and the challenges the responsibility imposed on her in raising her two children, followed by the loss of her mother. She emphasizes that a person can continue living despite the pain, not because they do not hurt, but because their responsibilities sometimes give them the motivation to keep going.
Regarding her move to Dubai, she speaks about the difficulty of the beginnings and rebuilding oneself in a new environment, despite the achievements she previously attained in As-Suwayda. She explains that focusing on the present and dealing with each day as it comes helped her overcome feelings of anxiety and hesitation to turn a new page.
The interview also addresses the differences between a coach, a psychologist, a psychotherapist, and a psychiatrist, and the importance of understanding each person's needs to choose the appropriate type of support, away from misconceptions associated with seeking psychological help.
On another note, Gharz Al-Din discusses methods of communication with children, noting that direct advice can turn into a barrier between parents and their children, while empathetic dialogue allows ideas to be conveyed without imposing them. She also speaks about the importance of separating personal life from clients' stories to protect the specialist's mental health and ensure their continued ability to provide support.
Between loss, exile, and new beginnings, the episode offers a space for reflection on human resilience, and the importance of awareness, communication, and dealing with pain as steps toward a more balanced life.
